peru! day one

my first day in peru. well. hours. it feels like i've been here forever. La familia Roque is the greatest family. They are so welcoming and so patient with my spanish. Although, my spanish is a lot better than what I was anticipating it to be. I've only spoken it a handful of times since being back from the mission, so it's a big blessing that I am able to communicate and understand. It is sooo humid here! They live 10 blocks away from the ocean and I can smell it! It's nice to have moisture in the air after so much time in Utah. There are little parks everywhere.
We went out to eat for chinese food, a Peruvian favorite. I tried the national drink, inca kola. delicious. It's a sweet soda, kind of like cream soda. It was so great to just look around as we were driving around the city. Lots of casinos. They have chili's here. They have a piano in the house! Yipee! This week is school vacation for the school I'll be at, so I came at a perfect time; time to settle in and get comfortable before I get to work. I'm feeling really good here, which is a huge comfort. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Yay for Spanish still being easy!! Omg I'm so excited for you! I'm glad the family's super nice and wonderful and that you had Chinese. Although I am now craving Chinese. Despite it being 2:38 am. But really, is there ever a bad time for Chinese? This is me rambling.

Basically: I'm glad it all seems to be coming together so perfectly for you! I'm sure you'll love teaching and I am wicked happy for you!! I miss you and you should come home soon but I know you're having fun so yay!! Also, omg, ten blocks from the ocean?!?! Like whaaat. So. Jealous. I would like pictures of these parks please! I am a park-person.

And now that I've written pretty much as much as you did in your blog...I'm gonna go sleep/find out if we have some leftover Chinese downstairs (I know there was rice earlier). I love you and think you should update more! With pictures!!

Love, love, love, your half-hispanic-iced-tea-loving friend,

Alisha
